面白い英語ですね。

the next year は last year なんかと同じで，前置詞なしで「翌年における」という副詞的に使えます。

ここでは (the next year) を無視して
pattern of 名詞で「～のパターン」というくくりです。

この of の後に
which crops are grown in which fields
という間接疑問文が来ています。

X crops are grown in Y fields において，X も Y も不明で尋ねる疑問文を作る。
疑問詞は前に出るけど，２つある場合，when and where のような場合もありますが，
which crops は主語で，in which fields は副詞的なので and でつなげません。

だから，which crops だけ，もとの先頭で，in which fields はもとの後ろのまま。

そして，which crops は主語なので，間接疑問文も，疑問詞の疑問文も語順に違いはありません。

which crops are grown in which fields
で「どの作物がどの畑に育つか」という名詞のかたまりで
of の後に来ています。

patten of ～で「～のパターン，～についてのパターン」

無視した the next year も「翌年の」という感じで pattern にかかっています。

上記の記事とおなじでCrops of a different patternといってもおかしくはない。

windyさんが彼の主張を新たなスレッドで質問を立てられたようですが、whichは「両方」とも疑問詞だと言う事でヒントを得たのですが、whichは関係代名詞という考え方でも疑問詞でもなく、限定詞として考えてみるとthe next yearを含めた考え方ができる。

whichは限定詞＝my his the等になるのでwhichをhisに置き換えると
↓
Typically, the same farm may have a different pattern the next year of his crops are grown in his fields.

すると構文は
Typically, the same farm may have a different pattern that 　the next year of his crops are grown in his fields.

the next year of his crops
the next year of the crops
the next year of whichever crops
the next year of which crops

どれでもわかり易いもので良いが、主語となるthat節になる。

が一番スンナリとしているかもしれません。

of whichを文法書で調べれば、

Instead of whose, we can use of which or that...of (less normal) to refer to things and these are sometimes preferred. The most common word order is noun+of which or that...of, but of which ...noun also possilbe.
Compare following four ways of expressing the same idea,
He's written a book whose name I've forgotten.
He's written a book the name of which I've forgotten.
He's written a book that I've forgotten the name of.
He's written a book of which I've forgotten the name.

上記の文章は

　I've forgotten the name of a book

がもとで、a bookを先行詞とする関係代名詞でつなげている。が、大前提となります。

ならば、
the same farm may have a different pattern of which crops are grown in the fields

のもとの文章が
Crops of a different pattern are grown in the fields

で、a different patternを先行詞とする関係代名詞所有格の話をしていると私は説明をしているのです。

上記のもとぶん書き換えが間違いというならば、

１）正しいとされるべき、もとの文章を示せばよいだけです。Crops of a different pattern are grown in the fieldsが間違いであれば、正しい文章を提示されたらどうですか？と言っているのです。

２）提示できないないならば、その理由はなんなんですか？

を示さないと質問に答えたことになりませんよね。

of which を前に出して，
Find the house of which the roof is blue. としてもいいですが，まれです。

こんな of which the roof なんてのを私は中２の時，ラジオの百万人の英語でやりました。

これが関係詞の理解で必要かっていうと，まあ，必要だから昔はやってたのかもしれませんが，
こんなの普通には出てきません。

だから，こんなこと今では学生に教えません。
逆に，これは昔は出てきませんでしたが，

pattern / crops of which are ～
pattern / of which crops are ～

特に whose と＝のパターンを考えているわけでもなく，

これがもとの文章。

ということでしょう？

こういう (the) 名詞 of which で
of which を前に出す，というのは

のように，自由にできるわけではありません。

所有格的だから，house / of which the roof is red
これはまだぎりぎり許されます。
現代では，ダメだという人もいるでしょう。

これと同じ感覚で of which が前に出る，と思ってはだめです。

動詞 talk とのつながりで of であれば，of whom を前に出せますが，

ここで of which を前に出すのは無理があります。

そういう部分的なところで関係代名詞を前に出せない，
ということで，ここまで議論になっているくらいだから難しいのでしょう。

だから，見かけ上，
pattern / of which crops are ～というのが
patten ＋ Crops of the pattern are ～
から来ているとしても，やはり「～の」の使い方に無理があります。

あと，which fields の問題もあります。

結局，言い合いになって，こっちが損をするだけなので

でもそれは理解できない人のせいです。

関係代名詞には関係代名詞を取り除いたときのもとの文章があるはずです。
まずは、そのもとの文を提示することでその文章がどのように関係代名詞で結ばれていくのかです。

英語なんですから、もとの文章をなくして文法解釈をするなどありえない。

間違った解釈と思えば、もとの文章を示すことが先です。

何を言っているのかよくわかりませんが，
もとの文も何も，これ関係代名詞じゃないんで。

関係代名詞ではないものを，関係代名詞としてもとの文章？などありません。

だから，誤りの証明はやめておきます。

文意は私は最初からずっと訳しています。

私はこの英語は
of ＋間接疑問文と言っているのです。

この英語の of which は関係代名詞の whose に変えられるような
表現ではない。

the の有無はいいですよ。
そのことは #8 にも書きました。

こういう whose 名詞 → of which (the) 名詞
ということが可能なのは所有関係があるからで，日本語の「の」では割り切れません。

「あるパターンの crops」というだけで
先行詞 patter / of which CROPS なんてできないんですよ。

確かに crops of a patter「あるパターンの作物」で日本語は通じます。
これで of which を前に出すなんてことはできないんです。

普通には the crops of which と the が必要な所有関係に限って
of which the crops ということが可能です。

可能でも，まれ，であり，今ではこういう of which the 名詞という形さえ
使わない，という人もいるくらいです。

とにかく，この英語で of ＋間接疑問文と読めない，感じないのならそこが限界です。

誤りの命題の証明は難しい，しかも相手の能力次第では，不可能でしょう。
だから，誤りの証明はやめておきます。

この英語で of ＋名詞節，が正しい理解です。

もっともこれは英語教師的な理解・説明で

としないとwhoseにはならない。故にこの文章は間違っているということになる。

上記の関係代名詞of whichをなくして、もとの文章に書き直せば

the crops of a different pattern are grown in which fields next year.
or
the crops of the pattern are grown in which fields next year

とは言える。で、書き換えは正しいです。それで一見正しいのですが・・・・・・
