昨今の情報機器の目覚しい発達によって速く、安く簡単に情報を交換することが個人単位で可能になり、地球上のどの相手ともコミュニケーションが可能になったが、新しい情報機器・媒体によるネットワークの構築は人々のコミュニケーション観や人間関係にも影響を及ぼし、例えば昨今では相手とのコミュニケーションにはテキストメッセージ、電子メールの交換が日常となっているが、全く会った事もない人を身近に感じるなど「親しさ」の捕らえ方も従来とは変わりつつあり、自己の危険管理もうやまばれ、情報機器媒体を通した第三者とのコミュニケーションによる犯罪件数も年々増加する傾向にある。

それにファックスやメール、テキストなど、新しい情報通信手段を用いたコミュニケーションは、目に見えたり、声の聞こえない相手との意思疎通であるのでしたがって、相手と直接向かい合って行う、対話や声の聞こえる電話とは異なって、相手からのその都度の反応を受けながらのコミュニケーションを進めることが出来ないと言う、制約・デメリットもある。

確かに、情報機器の媒体をとうしてのコミュニケーションは相手に的確に情報の伝達や自分の気持ちなどを迅速に確実に伝えることが出来、相手と時間を共有しなくて良いと言う利点もあるが文章・言葉のみのコミュニケーションより、直接向き合い、相手の声色、顔の表情,顔色、視線、身振り手振りなどを直に見て、感じ取ることで相手との意思の疎通をより円滑に、進めることが出来るのではないだろうかと思う。
