質問

訳してみましたが、どうも上手く繋がりません。

For him the realization mean a renunciation,
a departure from an age of full and beatiful humanity,
which can no more be repeated in the couse of our cultural development than can the flower of the Athenian culture of antiquity.

彼にとってその認識は諦めを意味する、
十分に美しい人間本来の生き方を離れる、
古代アテネ文化の栄光が戻らないように私たちの文化発展の順路ももどらない。

と、訳してはみたのですが、どうも日本語らしくなりません。
あと、３行目のwhichがどこにかかっていくのかも分かりません。

(2)a departure ... beautiful humanityは、a renunciationの言い換えで、概ね、a renunciation of=a departure from, the Faustian universality of man=an age of full and beautiful humanityが成立します(つまり、humanityは「人間」を表します。ofの後の名詞句は潜伏文と分析して、an age when it is possible for humanity to be full and beautifulと解釈できます)。

「訳例」
彼がそう思うようになったということはある意味で信念を捨てたということ、つまり「完全で美しい人間性を実現できる時代がまた来る」という考えから離れていったことになる。そのような時代は、古代アテネ文化の栄華が繰り返されることがないと同様、我々人間の文化的発展の途上に二度と姿を現すことはないのである。

whichは、an age of full and beautiful humanityということですよね。
つまり、
[古代アテネ文化の栄光が戻ってくる可能性]　≧　[私たちの文化が発展して、昔あったような十全で美しい人間性の時代が到来する可能性]
と言っているのだと思います。
