ニュースで英会話で次の文を見ました。

The Chinese are the North Koreans' closest ally.

The China、またはthe North Korea としないのは、「国」よりも「人」のニュアンス、
または国民同士の繋がり？を強調しようとしているからでしょうか？

→The Chinaやthe North Koreaという言い方は間違いです。ChinaやNorth Koreaとすべきです。

１．China is North Korea's closest ally.
２．The Chinese are the North Koreans' closest ally.
→どちらもあり得ます。allyなので、ChinaとかNorth Koreaというと、国が擬人化されたように思えます（がよく使う表現です）。その点、the Chinese, the North Koreansとすると、人の集合体のような意味にもとれ、allyとの相性がよくなります。

The China…というのは確かにあり得ないですね。質問したい内容に集中していて不注意でした。

「allyなので、ChinaとかNorth Koreaというと、国が擬人化されたように思えます（がよく使う表現です）。その点、the Chinese, the North Koreansとすると、人の集合体のような意味にもとれ、allyとの相性がよくなります。」というご説明、とても参考になりました！
