以下の英語はどうですか。

A: アメリカ旅行どうだった？
B: すごくよかったよ。天気も良かったし。
A: 何か買い物した？
B: それが、買い物するつもりで行かなかったからあまりお金を持っていかなかったのさ。ま、今回は下見ということで、買い物は次回の楽しみに取っておくよ。

A: How was your trip to the US?
B: It was great. The weather was great, too.
A: Did you go shopping?
B: Well, I didn't take a lot of money with me because I hadn't planned to shop around. I was just looking around. Shopping will be a pleasure next time.

そうですね。shopは、
　shop the store　店で買い物をする
という形で用いられますね。また、travelも通例、複数形で用いられるとありました。

ここでの「下見」とは、「preliminary inspection」のことではないと思います。「今回は何も買うつもりはないけれど、どんなものがあるのか次回のために見る」じゃないですかねぇ～。
took の前に I が抜けていますね。

"shop anything" はおかくしくありませんか。
shopの他動詞は「（買い物のため）＜店＞をあさる、見て回る」です。

Well, I didn't take(have) a lot of money with me because I hadn't planned to buy something. I was just looking, you know, I'm gonna enjoy shopping next time.

shop aroundは、買う前に、いろいろ見て、値段や質を比較するって感じでしょうか。 We shopped around for the best deal on a new car. って例文がありました。
