「昔は無理やり親の言うことを聞かせる親が多かった」
という文なんですがThere are～ 構文ではじめたほうがいいんでしょうか。どんな文が自然にいきますか？教えてください

What parents said was gererally forced　in the past.
（過去には親がいうことが一般的に強要された。）とか、

In old times, many parents forced what they want to their children.
（昔は多くの親がいうことを子供に強要した。）

というのではいかがでしょうか。
「言うこと」は実際の発言というより「期待(expects)」とか「願い(wish)」という
感じだと思うので、sayでなくてもいいかも。
there were～では存在自体にアクセントが来る感じがして不自然かも。
この日本文では、「無理やり言うことを聞かせる」ことにアクセントがあるはず。
敢えて使うなら、There were a lot of cases～はどうですか。

In the olden days, there were many parents who would force their children to heed their cousel, however unwelcomed.

言うことを聞かせる、、これはだいたい助言、説教の意味があるので、heed counselを使ってみました。

In the old days, parents generally forced their children to obey orders.
あえて、「親が多かった」を「親は大抵は...」と変えてみました。「言うことを聞く」というのも「命令に従う」という言い方に変えてみました。
