in とfor の使い分けを教えてください。

(1)文のin the 24 hours と(2)のFor the 24 hours との使い分けがわかりません、どっちも「２４時間で」とするのであれば、(2)もin the 24 hoursでいいだろうし、・・・・。
使い分けやこの場合のなんでそれが選ばれているかを教えてください。

(1)はthroughがあるから 範囲のin になるのかな？
(2)はto があるから 午前６時までの２４時間の間 となるからforなのかな？
あとに続く動詞に影響されるのかな？ 教えてください。
