両者の違いはどこにあるのでしょうか？他動詞、自動詞用法でも合っているおもうのですが。
また、 I’ve made arrangements to stay at a hotel near the convention centerこれは不定詞の形容詞用法でよろしいでしょうか？よろしくお願いいたします。

prepare for the examination
生徒が試験に備えて準備する

prepare the examination
教師が試験を準備する

こういう違いと同じでしょうね。

for ～は「～に向けて、備えて、ために」です。

transportation transportation なら、
タクシーなりバスなり、交通手段そのものの手配。
transportation for transportation なら、
そのような交通手段のために、運転手の手配や時刻表を調べる感じでしょうか。
