解説だとわかりにくいですね。これは品詞上、文法上の問題です。 has a range of technical abilities とあって、空所がくる、その後に that of his peers ＝ the range (of technical abilities) of her peers という名詞のかたまりとつなげるには前置詞 beyond のみがふさわしいのです。 beyond ～で「～を越えて」「～を越えた」 moreover などはただ「さらに」であり、「～よりさらに」のようにつなげることはできないのです。
