Are Advances in Science and Economics Making People Happier?

このQ&Aのポイント
  • Advances in science and economics are not necessarily making people happier. While people are living longer, this often means spending more time in hospitals. The focus on quantity is causing a loss in quality of life.
  • Piercing, particularly among kids, can lead to body abuse, infections, and permanent scarring.
  • High boots and shoes carry inherent dangers. If we outlaw other dangerous activities such as speeding, drugs, and guns, should we not also consider outlawing such shoes?

Advances in science and economics are not necessarily making people happier. → People may not become happier (even) though science and economics have advanced. Yes, people are living longer, but for most people this just means spending more time in a hospital. → Longevity, for most people, means staying longer in a hospital. We are gaining quantity, but losing quality. → We are increasing quantity at the expense of quality. → We are sacrificing quality to quantity. → We are gaining quantity at the sacrifice of quality. As for piercing, it teaches kids to abuse their bodies and leads to infections and permanent scarring. → Piercing gives children a wrong message, that is, it is all right to abuse their bodies. → Yet, what sometimes happens is that they get infected and the scar remains permanently. High boots and shoes are inherently dangerous. → If you wear high boots or high shoes, your feet may get some kind of damage. If we outlaw other dangerous activities such as speeding, drugs and guns, should not we outlaw such shoes? → When we have regulations against speeding, drugs and guns, why don't we have regulations against such shoes? 以上でいかがでしょうか?
