小さい頃から食事のマナーはうるさく言われた。テーブルに肘をついてはいけない。本を読みながら食べてはいけない。すべての行儀のしつけは食事にあったように思う。食事を通した習慣が、日本の良き文化を作ってきた。
I was often told to behave myself during eating in my early years. For example, don't stand your elbow on the table, or don't read a book while you are eating. Any discipline of manners lies, I think, in eating. The conventions through eating have made Japanese good culture.
