次の文章についてお聞きします。わたしが考えたことを先に書きます。 多様性 アメリカ 典型的なアメリカの家族がどういうものか定義できない。 民族的、人種的、経済的なさまざまな集団が教育や雇用形態にはいっているが、家の中ではその集団は（今でも対立する）ことが多い。 根拠は後ろに多くの家族は強い宗教的、民族的背景がある、とあるのでみんなそれぞれ違っているから対立がうまれると考えました。 the close-knit-extended family（よくわかりませんでした）の保護になっている。伝統的な役割と宗教は核家族に（大きな影響を与えた） 今の経済の状況、社会的態度、仕事のmobilityは伝統的な影響とともに競争になっている。 アメリカの家族 分離、離婚が増加 ↓ 結果 single parent families, 再婚、communal lifestyles しかし結婚の制度はcrumbling（だといつも問題になっているわけではない）。crumblingという単語は、これだけ再婚、離婚があるにもかかわれずでも、「なにもかわっていない」と考えました。結構制度がわるいのになにもかわっていないと考えました。 離婚した5人中4人→再婚。この形はbreakdownといえるかもしれない。 この変化（離婚や再婚がくりかえされること）＝breakdown 価値の低下、道徳心の低下 逆に,この変化は変わらないし、positiveに考えるべきという人もいる。 流れの時に書いた単語がわからないと文の内容はよめませんか？この文章３題を解くのに読む時間はどれくらいですか？ タイトル Changes in the American Family structure It is almost impossible to describe a"typical American family"because the United States is such a heterogeneous country.Although members of ethnic, racial, or economic groups may assimilate into the educational and employment of the establishment, the often( .....21)within the home. こんにちは。 第一段落で補足すると、"assimilate" というのが「同化する」という意味であることがわかれば、学校や職場では民族的なものも含めて多様な背景を持つ人々が一様になっているように見えるが、その次の文で、家庭では多様的なことが書いてあればいいので、伝統的文化を守っている、というのを選べばいい、というところでしょうか。 それで家庭の文化的な背景が種々多様なので、最初にあった、典型的なアメリカの家族がどういうものか定義できない、ということにつながります。 "close-knit extended family" というのがアメリカ版のYahoo Answersに載っていたのですが、それによると、 "A close knit family is simply a family that is close--it could apply to a nuclear family (mom, dad, kids) or extended family (cousins, uncles, grandparents)." とあったので、宗教的、民族的な強い背景で家族や親戚を結びつけていたのが、経済的状況などといったものが張り合うようになった、というところでしょうか。

お返事が遅くなり、ご迷惑をおかけして本当にごめんなさい。 close-knit extendded familyはclose「近い」knitはよくわかならい、extended family「拡大された家族？」となってよくわからなくなっていました。言葉と言葉、単語と単語のつながりを理解していませんでした。ご説明していただき疑問がすっきり晴れました。 お二方にはいろいろご面倒、そしてご迷惑をおかけしてしまい、 ごめんなさい。

事情によりお返事がするのが大変遅くなってしまい、ごめんなさい。 段落の構成のご説明から、文一つ、一つの着目点のご説明までありがとうございます。 maintain their cultural heritage とcontinue to contribute to the preservation of the close-knit extended familyの二つが同じことを言っているのは気づきませんでした。裏返すと、have strong religion or ethnic backgrounds whichcontinue to contribute to the preservation of the close-knit extended familyが、(21)の解答の根拠になっているのですね。 スペルミスがあり、本当にごめんなさい。 どうしてそんなに言葉の言い換えに気づくことができるのですか？maintain their cultural heritage と、continue to contribute to the preservation of the close-knit extended と、traditional roles and religion の３つが言い換えだったことに読んでいたときは気づかなかったです。 わたしも第二段落は突然「多様性」という話から、「離婚率、別居の増加」と話が変ったように感じて、なぜこんな話題が出てきたのだろうと思ってしまいました。 中でもこの流れから２３の設問に立ち戻るとのところは、まるで予備校の先生のようなとても論理的に解答の糸口を探るように話しているように思えて、感激して何度も何度も読み返しました。まるで国語の現代文の授業を受けているようでした。この傍線部の箇所がわからない、すると３２行目が実は言い換えになっていると言うように。 どうしてそんなに解説が、しかも文字でできるのかが不思議でした。 単語をいくら覚えても、「読み解く」「言い換え」は知っているけど、「気づかなければ」いけなかったことがよくわかりました。 本当にお返事遅くなり、ごめんなさい。
