Gです。 ＞"It's a picture of cherries." ということですか？ そういうことです。 まさか、紙に描かれたものがチェリーで食べられるわけじゃないですね。 ＜ｇ＞ ＞それを 単に"cherries" と答えさせてＯＫ？ "They are cherries." と答えた場合もＯＫ？ 両方ともOKです。

アメリカに37年住んでいる者です。 私なりに書かせてくださいね。 What are these?と言う表現はいいと思いますよ。 表現にバラエティーを載せることも大事だと思います。 いつもWhat's this?ではなく、最初のカードではWhat does this card show?と言う表現をすることで、What's this?とはじめから言うと子供たちはThat's a card!!なんていう答えが来る可能性もありますね。 その答えをバツとしますか？ Ok, then what is this one? How about this one? Can you tell what this is? How about this one? What are these? Well, this may be a hard one. What do you think? などの表現を使うことができるわけですね。 これで、子供たちとコミュニケーションに一方通行的、答えを求めるだけのものでなくすことができるわけですね。 また、Well, Masao said this is a dog, what do you think, Akiko?と言うように個人的なコミュニケーションを図ることで、集中心をなくしかけてきている子供に、Akiko, please pay more attention to the class.と言うよりも自発的に参加させることができるわけですね。 これでいかがでしょうか。 分かりにくい点がありましたら、補足質問してください。

子供に教える時とかに限らず、ネイティブなら何て言うんだろうと考えると、複数のものに対しては "What are these?"ですよね。正しくないことをわざわざ言う必要はないと思います。特に子供に対しては、正しい表現で教えるべきだと思います。

ありがとうございます。 実際に目に見えるものが複数のときに What's this? と尋ねることは明らかな間違いになるんでしょうか？ だとしたら、多くの英語教室では間違った質問をしているように思います。 多種の質問の仕方で生徒を混乱させないために、あえてすべての絵カードにWhat's this? と質問しているのかもしれないし、講師の認識度の低さによる間違いなのかもしれませんが、複数の英会話教室の体験レッスンで、２粒つながったさくらんぼや１房のぶどうの絵カードをみせてWhat's this?とやっているのを実際に聞いています。 いずれにせよ、今後よく注意してただしい表現を使っていきたいと思います。ありがとうございました。

もう、悲鳴をあげたくなるほど納得しました！！ What is this picture? だったんですね！！？ とすると、厳密に言うと答えは "It's a picture of cherries." ということですか？ それを 単に"cherries" と答えさせてＯＫ？ "They are cherries." と答えた場合もＯＫ？ 次から次へと質問が続いてしまい、申し訳ありません。 ひとつわかると、２つわからないことが現れる・・・そんな感じです。
