４回読んでやっとその文がわかりました。
答えは、I read the sentence four times before I understood it.

ですが、これは、
I understood the sentence after I read it four times
でもOKでしょうか？時制的な問題はありませんでしょうか。

普通は、I understood the sentence after reading it four times. です。

少し仰々しいですが、やっと(ついに)分かった！と強調したいなら
I read the sentence four times and finally understood it.
としてもいいかもしれない。
