What is the maximum possible area of this rectangle? この長方形の可能な最大の面積はいくらか? ってことですよね．この長方形の長辺の長さをa，短辺の長さをbとすると，長辺は有効数字2桁で25 cm，すなわち3桁目（小数第1位）を四捨五入して25 cmなのですから， a < 25.5 cm. 同様に， b < 14.5 cm. したがってこの長方形の面積として考えられる最大の面積Sは S = ab < 25.5 cm × 14.5 cm = 369.75 cm^2. これを有効数字2桁で指数表示すると 3.7×10^2 cm^2 となります．

scientific notation については、参照URL をごらんください。ご質問の場合なら、　a.b×10^c という形式で答えればよさそう。

参照URL　有難うございました。私こちらで質問させて頂く前に同じサイト、見たんです。それなのに、肝心の　also known as standard form　というところを読んでいませんでした。そして、今改めて自分の質問を読むとかなりちんぷんかんぷんな事を書いてます、、反省です。しかし助かりました。有難うございました！
