またまた下記のような格言的表現を目に致しましたので、これもぜひ英訳して頂いて世界に向けて発信したいものと考えております。

　知人のアメリカ人に「私の〇〇は～」と切り出す人がいて、〇〇の中には医者とか判事とかがよく出てくるので、それだけでどういう型の人か見当がつきます。

　こういうのは「いつ結婚するの」「いつ子供を作るの」と聞き、周りの者は愛情と尊敬をもって接してくるのが当然である、という考えの人が多いようです。

　そうすると親と話しているとうざいことばかり聞くから、付き合いは最小限度、ということになり、ここでのstrainedの意味が、はっきりすると思います。

An American friend of mine used to say, "My so-and-so is an X." The X often is a physician or a lawyer and that alone tells what type of person you are dealing with.

People of this type often ask when the marriage is, when babies come, and assume that their young ones should treat them with love and respect.

The juniors, on the other hand, are sick of these questions and want to reduce the contact to a minimum, resulting in a "strained" relationship.
