The Shiites reject the leadership authority of the Umayyad Dynasty caliphs and the Caliphate, and believe that the Imams, who are successors to Ali, are the only ones with authority.

(On the other hand) the Sunnis believe that the true successors of Muhammad are the first four caliphs.
