Start the computer, load the Recovery Console, and then run Chkdsk /r.
To access the recovery console:
0. Start the computer with the Windows XP CD in the CD/DVD drive, and then when prompted press any key to boot from CD.
1. On the Welcome to setup screen, press the R key on your keyboard to repair the Windows XP installation using Recovery Console.
2. On the next screen, press the number of the Windows installation for which you know the administrator password.
3. After selecting the appropriate Windows installation, type the administrator password when prompted.
Reboot when you are done, and let the system load windows normally.
