Yahoo の意味を知って驚き！
大昔、初級者用の英語本で「Gulliver's Travells」を読んだことがあるのですが、全く覚えていません。偶然、yahooの意味を知って驚きました。
WikipediaにもThe Yahoos are primitive creatures obsessed with "pretty stones" that they find by digging in mud, thus representing the distasteful materialism and ignorant elitism Swift encountered in Britain. Hence the term "yahoo" has come to mean "a crude, brutish or obscenely coarse person".
と書かれています。
Yahooって孫正義さんの会社ですよね？英語に堪能な孫さんが、yahooの意味を知らないわけがないと思うのですが、何故こんな恐ろしい名前を付けたのでしょうね？
しかし、当たっているというか、ヤフーやソフトバンクは正に、現代の行き過ぎた物質主義、無知なエリート主義を象徴する存在になってますよね？それを見越して、居直って、こういう名前を付けたのでしょうか？
貴方は、yahooの元々の意味を知ってましたか？
